Help Ourselves

Mutual Aid

Mutual aid is a survival tactic that promotes class solidarity and seeks to provide temporary aid to
those in need.

Accepting mutual aid as a permanent measure is accepting the material conditions behind why
mutual aid is needed.

About Help Ourselves Mutual Aid (HOMA)

We are an Anti-Capitalist, Revolutionary organization that seeks to build a strong community within Bloomington that is capable of defending itself from the state. Through community organizing we work to build relationships with the oppressed in our community. We strive to take input from our community in order to better inform how we apply our theory into practice.

What We Believe

We believe that only through the complete destruction of capitalism can better conditions for the masses be achieved. Until then, the mutual aid that we engage in can only serve as a band-aid for the struggling masses. We believe that if we fail to root out chauvinism within ourselves and our own community, then our movement will inevitably fail.

Study and Practice Sessions

Every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month. Time and
Location to be sent in the Participants Update chat, as
we can not always reserve the same space.

We discuss various revolutionary and anti-capitalist texts and discuss how the readings relate to our practice. In order for our practice to develop in a positive direction, it must be contextualized in the experiences of those who came before us. By studying what has already happened, we can avoid mistakes that have already been made and forge a new path forward.

HOMA Community

Defense Campaign

Although the City of Bloomington and Mayor Thompson display a progressive attitude and claim to have a willingness to work with the community, their actions show very differently. Since August, 2024, the City of Bloomington has been elevating its attacks against the struggling masses, generally expressed through repeated forced displacement of the lumpen community. The City of Bloomington is a part of the state and will always serve the ruling class. Unless we unite to fight back against oppression, we will be crushed under the state's attacks.
